A Vegan-Fueled Return to London: Exploring the Capital, One Plant-Based Bite at a Time
London is a city I return to almost every year. It’s familiar, yet every visit feels like a new adventure. This time around, I decided to let my stomach lead the way—focusing not just on the sights, but on discovering the rich and diverse vegan food scene the city has to offer.
Of course, I still stuck to a few of my usual London traditions. I wandered through Tower Hill, where the cobbled paths echo with history, and as always, I made my pilgrimage to Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea play—nothing quite beats the atmosphere of a live match in my favorite stadium.
But the heart of this trip? It was food. Flavorful, plant-based, and proudly diverse.
My Vegan Culinary Trail Through London
1. Unity Diner – Shoreditch
Founded by vegan advocate Earthling Ed, Unity Diner blends activism and indulgence in the best way. I had their famous tofish and chips, and it absolutely lived up to the hype—crispy, comforting, and packed with flavor. The retro-style setting and mission-driven vibe made it feel like more than just a meal.
2. Addis Kitchen – Brixton
A standout surprise on this trip, Addis Kitchen served up flavorful Ethiopian vegan dishes in a warm and unpretentious atmosphere. The injera, lentils, and spiced vegetables were deeply satisfying. Eating with my hands and sharing platters reminded me that food is as much about connection as it is about taste.
3. Mildreds – Soho
A classic that never misses. Their globally inspired dishes change with the seasons, but the quality and flavor remain unmatched. The soul bowl was hearty and beautifully presented—exactly the kind of meal that fills you up without slowing you down.
4. Stem & Glory – Barbican
Elegant and inventive, Stem & Glory’s miso-glazed aubergine and kimchi pancakes delivered bold, layered flavors. This is a great place for anyone looking to see how far plant-based cuisine has come in terms of creativity and presentation.
5. What The Pitta! – Camden
For street food with substance, What The Pitta! hits the mark. Their vegan doner wrap, filled with marinated seitan, fresh salad, and creamy sauces, was the definition of satisfying street fare. It’s fast food you can actually feel good about eating.
6. 222 Vegan Cuisine – West Kensington
This cozy spot offers wholesome, comforting meals with a homemade feel. The seitan stroganoff was creamy and rich, and the avocado cheesecake was the perfect finish—light, refreshing, and completely dairy-free.
7. Farmacy – Notting Hill
Stylish and polished, Farmacy feels like a wellness haven disguised as a chic eatery. Their “Earth Bowls” and plant-based lattes made for an ideal slow brunch. The whole place felt like a breath of fresh air.
The Takeaway: More Than Just Food
This trip reminded me why I keep coming back to London. From the timeworn stones of Tower Hill to the electric energy of Stamford Bridge, and now through its ever-evolving plant-based food culture, the city continues to reinvent itself. It’s a place where tradition and innovation meet—especially on the plate.
If you’re vegan, plant-curious, or just a foodie looking for inspiration, London will feed your curiosity and your appetite in equal measure.
Already planning next year’s trip—and yes, I’m saving room for more.
