My 10-Day Orlando Road Trip Adventure in 2021

Orlando, Florida, is a magical place that promises adventure for visitors of all ages. In 2021, I embarked on an unforgettable 10-day road trip to Orlando, with a quick overnight stop in Savannah, Georgia to break up the drive. This trip was a perfect blend of excitement, relaxation, and discovery. Here’s a recap of my journey, complete with tips and highlights that might inspire your next Florida adventure!

Day 1: The Journey Begins – Easton to Savannah, Georgia

Our road trip began early, leaving from Easton, Maryland, and heading south toward Florida. The drive itself was scenic, with a perfect mix of rural landscapes and bustling highway stretches. After a full day on the road, we decided to make an overnight stop in Savannah, Georgia, to rest before continuing our journey.

A Quick Stop in Savannah

Savannah, known for its charming streets and rich history, offered a perfect spot to unwind. We spent a few hours walking through the historic district, admiring the beautiful squares, old oak trees, and Spanish moss. Dinner at one of the local eateries was the perfect way to end our evening, giving us just enough energy to recharge before getting back on the road the next day.

Day 2: Arrival in Orlando

By the second day, we were finally in Orlando, ready to start our 10-day adventure! Orlando is a city that needs no introduction, with world-famous theme parks like Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. But, there’s more to Orlando than just theme parks, and we set out to explore both the famous and the lesser-known attractions.

Day 3-4: Walt Disney World

No trip to Orlando would be complete without visiting Walt Disney World. We spent two full days at the park, exploring the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The magic of Disney is undeniable, from the charming parades to the exhilarating rides. Tip: If you want to maximize your experience, consider purchasing park hopper tickets, so you can visit multiple parks in one day!

Magic Kingdom

The iconic Cinderella Castle is the heart of Magic Kingdom. We spent hours taking in the enchantment of Main Street USA, meeting beloved characters, and enjoying timeless rides like Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Epcot

Epcot was a delight, especially the World Showcase, where we could experience the culture and cuisine of different countries. The “Spaceship Earth” ride was a must-do, and we loved sampling international dishes at the various pavilions.

Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom provided a refreshing mix of nature and adventure. The Pandora – The World of Avatar was truly otherworldly, and the Expedition Everest roller coaster was a thrilling highlight.

Day 5-6: Universal Studios Orlando

Next on our list was Universal Studios, a paradise for thrill-seekers. We spent two full days at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, and I can say without a doubt, the rides here are some of the most exhilarating I’ve experienced.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, Universal is the place to be. Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade were incredibly detailed, and the Hogwarts Express ride was a magical experience. Don’t forget to try a Butterbeer!

Thrill Rides Galore

From the Jurassic Park River Adventure to the intense roller coasters like Hulk and the Incredible Hulk coaster, Universal delivered non-stop thrills. The Spider-Man ride is a classic and still one of my favorites!

Day 7: Explore the City Beyond the Parks

While the theme parks were certainly the main draw, Orlando offers much more. On day seven, we decided to take it easy and explore the city at a slower pace.

Lake Eola Park

A peaceful day at Lake Eola Park was a perfect break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. We enjoyed a relaxing boat ride on the lake, where we got up close to the swans and enjoyed the stunning skyline of downtown Orlando.

ICON Park

ICON Park is home to The Wheel, a giant observation wheel that offers a 360-degree view of Orlando. It’s a great way to get a unique perspective of the city. Afterward, we explored the nearby restaurants and shops for some casual dining.

Day 8: Kennedy Space Center

A visit to the Kennedy Space Center was an unforgettable experience. We spent a day learning about space exploration, meeting astronauts, and experiencing interactive exhibits. The Space Shuttle Atlantis was awe-inspiring, and the Astronaut Hall of Fame was a must-see for anyone interested in space history.

Tip: Be sure to check out the Mars Rover exhibit and the various IMAX films playing throughout the day.

Day 9-10: Relaxation and Downtown Orlando

After a jam-packed week of theme parks and attractions, we decided to spend our last two days winding down and enjoying the more laid-back side of Orlando.

Shopping and Dining

We spent time at The Mall at Millenia and Disney Springs, shopping for souvenirs and enjoying great food. Disney Springs had so many delicious options, from quick bites to fine dining. I highly recommend trying The BOATHOUSE for a relaxing waterfront meal.

Final Day: A Peaceful Stroll in Leu Gardens

On our final day, we visited Harry P. Leu Gardens, a beautiful 50-acre botanical garden. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on our amazing trip. The lush greenery and colorful flowers were a beautiful contrast to the theme parks, offering a serene end to our adventure.

Conclusion

Orlando offers a mix of fun, excitement, and relaxation, making it the perfect destination for travelers looking for variety. Whether you’re into adrenaline-pumping theme park rides, immersing yourself in the magic of Disney, or enjoying a more relaxed day exploring the city’s attractions, Orlando has something for everyone. If you’re planning a trip, consider taking your time and soaking in all the experiences this wonderful city has to offer.
